Effect of temperature on aflatoxin production in Mucuna pruriens seeds.
This paper describes the effect of temperature on the level of aflatoxin production in Mucuna pruriens seeds. The highest level of aflatoxin B1 (1.75 micrograms/g) was detected in the samples incubated at 25 degrees C for three weeks. At 20, 30, and 35 degrees C, aflatoxin levels were 0.30 to 0.56, 0.37 to 1.20, and 0.26 to 0.65 micrograms/g, respectively. The lowest concentration of aflatoxin ...

متن کاملMucuna pruriens in Parkinson disease
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether Mucuna pruriens (MP), a levodopa-containing leguminous plant growing in all tropical areas worldwide, may be used as alternative source of levodopa for indigent individuals with Parkinson disease (PD) who cannot afford long-term therapy with marketed levodopa preparations. METHODS We investigated efficacy and safety of single-dose intake of MP powder from roas...
متن کاملIn Vitro Lipid Peroxidation and Antimicrobial Activity of Mucuna Pruriens Seeds
The present investigation is aimed to carry out the in vitro lipid peroxidation and antimicrobial activities of the methanol extract of Mucuna pruriens (MEMP) (Family: Fabaceae) seeds. Lipid peroxidation was monitored by the change in optical density of the prepared concentrations (10-320 g/ml) and the % inhi-bition was calculated. Ascorbate/FeSO4-induced peroxidation was inhibited by standard ...
متن کاملP01.36. Assessment of commercial formulations of mucuna pruriens seeds for Levodopa (L-DOPA) content
Purpose Mucuna pruriens (mucuna) seeds contain 3-6% LDOPA, and have been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to treat diseases resembling Parkinson’s disease (PD). Pilot studies in PD show that mucuna seed powder has similar effects to conventional levodopa/carbidopa medication. Formulations of mucuna seed are readily available through the internet, and are used by some PD patients as an alt...
